The PTO is a group of volunteer parents focused on raising money to support programs and initiatives that benefit the students at South Elementary. The majority of our funds go to support curriculum enrichment, equipment for specials such as PE and art, and continuation of software licenses enable highly interactive and engaging learning for the students. Every child in every grade benefits from funds raised by the PTO. 

We encourage you to get involved in our programs and we appreciate your continued support. 


President: Monica Cirino

Provide oversight of all facets of the PTO organization, including but not limited to establishing the budget for the PTO, securing lead volunteers for the given school year, reviewing and approving all listserv announcements, and providing support the lead volunteers of the fundraising and the expenditure initiatives in an effort to raise the funds needed to subsidize such expenditures as Curriculum Enrichment, staff development, classroom supplies, etc. These initiatives include, but are not limited to those listed below.


Maintains contact with the Executive Board and the school committee. Chairs all PTO meetings, both Executive Board and general meetings. Meets with principal regarding items and issues relating to PTO management and concerns. Attends monthly townwide PTO meetings. Position is a 2 year term.

Vice President: Christina Berthelsen

Attends monthly Executive Board and PTO meetings. The Vice President’s position is that of a general liaison, tracking various committee activities and assisting as required. Maintains close contact with the President and will assist the President as needed. Position is a 1 year term that typically feeds to the President position.

Treasurer: Mary Merrill

Receives, deposits, and keeps record of all moneys received for South School PTO. Pays invoices. Reconciles monthly statements. Maintains file of all invoices and reports. Oversees checking account. Publishes monthly actual vs. budget statements using Excel/Quicken or equivalent computer program. Member of the PTO Executive Board.

Secretary/Clerk: Kate Geary

Takes minutes of all Executive Board meetings. Types and distributes the minutes to all board members for review. Types summary of general PTO meeting minutes and posts on PTO website.

Keeps a record pertaining to the organization (except Treasurer duties) in PTO notebook for current year. Holds previous year’s PTO notebook. Monitors organization’s compliance with by-laws and Articles of Organization.

Kindergarten Liaison: Jenn Ezell

Acts as a resources for all incoming Kindergarten parents.  Coordinates activities ranging from the PTO's role in Kindergarten Orientation, Annual Boo Hoo Woo Hoo, Monthly Mingles, and South School Kindergarten Facebook page.

Curriculum Enrichment Coordinator: Liz Orms

Works closely with the principal and teachers at South to enhance the curriculum by providing activities that have a broad base in Science, English, the Arts, etc.

TIGER ACADEMY Coordinator: Danielle Ramsey

Find parents and businesses to teach before and after school enrichment classes at South.  Coordinate calendar and space openings to schedule multiple classes with South School staff.  Market details to South School families via website, email, flyers and social media.  Keep track of families that sign-up and confirm payment with Treasurer.


Welcomes new families to South School, introducing them to the community and answering questions to aid in a smooth transition. Coordinates events for new parents.

South School Bingo Coordinator: Kate Squillacioti

Coordinates the winter adult fundraiser, "Ain't Your Mama's Bingo" with DJ Edna. 

Oktoberfest Coordinator: Kate Squillacioti

Coordinates the fall social event, Oktoberfest at Oak and Iron. Leads a team of volunteers in all aspects of the event, including silent auction. 

Communications Coordinator: Kate Caruso

Responsible for maintaining listserv, emailing community, and publishing and distributing the quarterly PTO newsletter.

5th Grade Activities Coordinator: OPEN POSITION

Responsible for organizing and overseeing parent involvement for the fifth grade activities and projects. Put together yearbook to be presented to graduating students.  Coordinates and orders materials for the school store, schedules student helpers.  Develops classroom visitation schedule.

Room Parent Coordinator: Annmarie Conner

Responsible for organizing and assigning room parents to the classroom. Also responsible for instructing room parents on room parent guidelines and school policies as they pertain to the classrooms and class activities throughout the year.

Student Directory Coordinator: ​Jennessa Durrani

Obtains permission and current information from all families.  Organizes and formats the Student Directory to publish annually.  Solicits business advertisements as a fundraiser.

Library Coordinators: Kate Geary and Rachel Scott


Works towards improving the Library/Media Center by assisting the librarian in checking out books, maintaining the collections, working on bulletin boards and display cases, and scheduling volunteer helpers.

Mathathon Coordinator: Jennessa Durrani

Revises and makes copies of the Math-a-thon packet, works with the teachers to roll out and promote the Math-a-thon, and manages the collection the pledges as they come in.

Half Day Fundraiser Events Coordinators: Anne Wood and Lauren Straub

Plans, coordinates, and markets fundraiser events with vendors (i.e. local businesses who will donate a portion of event proceeds to PTO).  Attends events and follows up with vendors for PTO donations.

ACE Liaisons: ​Lauren Conoscenti

Parent to Parent Liaisons: Lauren Conoscenti

Attends the board meetings of the Parent to Parent town-wide organization, which works to bring speakers and workshops to Andover to address various parenting issues. The Liaison is responsible for keeping the schools posted regarding various events and upcoming speakers. They have the opportunity to preview potential speakers and workshop leaders, and help determine the following year’s calendar of events for Parent to Parent.

Spirit Wear: Sherry Kirby and Gia Cyrier

Coordinates the sale and distribution of South School Clothing and accessories.

Pledge Drive Coordiantor: Mary Merrill

Revises the pledge drive letter that goes out with the “PTO Welcome Back” packet, and manages the pledge drive donations as they come in.

Champion Snowball: Amy Berinato and Liz Mills

Plan January 31, 2020 formal/family dance.  Market, hire DJ, and decorate.  Assemble team of volunteers for event.

Spring Fling: Meg Buczynski

The lead volunteer establishes what the theme of the event will be and oversees the committee that runs the event. This includes but is not limited to overseeing the coordination of food and entertainment, managing the volunteers that will be running the activities at the event, and promoting the event.

Leads the committee that will run the Book Fair. This includes but is not limited to working with the book supplier, managing volunteers, and promoting the fair.

Pie Sale Fundraiser: ​Mary Merrill & Kristine Buckridge

Coordinates orders in October and delivery Thanksgiving week for Smolak Farms pie sales.

Box Tops: Charlene Clark

Sets ups “Box Top” boxes in each of the classrooms during the week of collection, collects the box tops, coordinates a “clipping” and “bundling” coffee, and provides Mrs. Crowley and the Executive Board with information about the total collected and the name of the winning class.

SEPAC Liaison: Megan Buczynski

Acts as link between parents of children of special needs, the PTO Board, and S.E.P.A.C.; provides information and resource list to parents of children with special needs. The liaison is responsible for keeping the school posted regarding various S.E.P.A.C. events and upcoming speakers.
